Not Given. "The Jersey Devil (Fact or Fiction)." elktownship.com. 2002. Disk Work. 12 April

Paraphrase: Over 260 years a mythical creature called the Jersey Devil has haunted Pine Barrens, New Jersey. The townspeople said that the Devil has "terrorized towns and caused factories and schools to close down, yet some of the people still believed that the Jersey Devil is a legend, mythical beast, that originated from folklore of the New Jersey Pine Barrens" (Elktownship, 1).

Direct Quote: Seeing how there are numerous amount of "stories" referring to the Jersey Devil, one of the most popular "legends say a Mrs. Shrouds of Leeds Point, NJ made a wish that if she ever had another child, she want it to be a devil" (2).

Notes:
-When the child was born it just happened to be deformed, she cared for it, hid the "baby" away from the curious, then one day the baby flapped it's arm's then turned into wing's and flew away. -Another story says that a young girl from Leeds Point fell in love with a British soldier during the Revolutionary War. The towns people of Leeds Point cursed her, and when she would give birth, it would be the devil, that was the punishment.
